Feel Alive
Film-maker Comments: My least favourite task when editing a film is choosing music for it as it takes so long. So I decide to try it the other way around and find a piece of music and make a video based on the lyrics of the song. The images used were also royalty free images found on line which by chance gave me the concept of interpreting the lyrics of the song from a perspective of obsession. Incidentally it took just as long to find a suitable track this way round.
This originally started out because I find the task of finding music for my videos (usually using a paid for service called ArtList.io) a time consuming and often tedious process. The thought occurred to me that it may be easier to find a song (with lyrics) and then make a video to tell the story in the song. It turns out it was no easier but it was fun and I recommend the approach for anyone looking for creative ideas. I had no access to actors (apart from the lower part of my daughters legs) so I built the film around the concept of someone being obsessed about a young woman’s photos online and used royalty free photos to in effect play her part. Along with a couple of close up shots of my eyes and fingers where required to keep the feeling of anonymous voyeur to the piece.

On the Rocks
Film-maker Comments: Filmed over the Christmas break this film tells a short story whilst keeping the framing of the camera inside a very limited space. For those that know what to look for the film is littered with references to other creative work that I have previously done.
Was made specifically for this competition and started out with the concept of trying to tell a story with the camera always in close up on a very small space (a table top). All of the voice that you hear is from three unrelated sound sample packs that I purchased several years previously. This added a challenge of building a story using blocks of script which were already defined. Pretty much all of the sound is from a variety of sound effects libraries and I deliberately tried to make both the sound and the shots as stylised as possible.

Flower Power
Film-maker Comments: This an attempt to produce a creative edit using material which I filmed earlier in 2019. I have tried some things which I have not tried before such as reversing and slowing down a clip and then applying a pan and zoom effect. It is also partially cut to music of the era. The shots were mainly taken on a Canon 80D and the film was edited using Adobe Premiere Elements 14 on a PC. The music was purchased from the Audio Network and is therefore is copyright free.

Howie Finds a Home
Film-maker Comments: A hopefully light hearted children's story and my first attempt at stop motion. Filmed entirely using a Canon SX620HS compact camera and edited with Final Cut Pro. To some degree it is intentionally clunky although on review there are a number of obvious flaws with continuity and slight lack of footage. However, this was fun to make and edited in a short timeframe.
