Cure of Souls
What is the difference between a vicar and a rector? John attempts to explain. It was filmed in variety of locations around Chelmsford and sets the challenge of having 'on camera' narration. The soundtrack is largely recorded straight to camera using A Sennheiser radio lapel mic with a little help from foley sound.
All over a Cup of Coffee
This started life as a test to make a working teleprompt based on the 'Pepper's Ghost' principle, but as time went by, it just became a project on the meaning of 'Living', at least, based on the dictionary definition.
Living for Today
All through the summer I have been thinking of making a film and have been capturing various clips I thought might be useful but hadn't got to grips with putting something together because of another editing task! However when we went up to stay with a friend of over 50 years who is currently suffering from pancreatic cancer and undergoing chemo treatment I was impressed by his positive attitude of "living for today". I pondered in my sleepless periods whilst staying with him about how I could present his positive attitude to living and wrote a short script which I thought I might ask him to read so I could record it and then fit my clips and pictures to it! He said a positive yes to the idea but when I presented the script he did his "own thing twice" and each time it was different.
I tried to get him to read the script and include pauses but we ran out of time and it was only then that he realised that perhaps he should have paused after each sentence! Anyway I have done my best in the few days since we got back and if nothing else it will be a very positive record for ourselves. By the way the ticking clock sound track is significant to my story concept - we were sleeping in a room with a ticking clock!
It is by no means perfect particularly as most of the shots are handheld, filmed on iPhone and DSLR and edited in Premiere Elements which doesn't have the benefit of clever stabilising addons!
Paris in May 2018 - a wonderful place to be. It has all the charm and insouciance of those care-free days that preceded World War and which became known as "La Belle Epoque". What is different perhaps, in this age of obsession with selfies, is the ubiquitous presence of the mobile phone. All over the city, people are relaxing and posing in a festival of narcissistic delight. But is everything quite what it seems?
The competition was held on 6th Noveber 2018 for which the set subject was "Living".
